Fundamentals of MODFLOW, MODPATH and MT3DMS plus Basic Steps in Groundwater Modeling Workflow

In this 15 minute video I will present you with fundamentals of MODFLOW, MODPATH and MT3DMS, history and typical applications. Also, I will start with first steps in building mathematical models for groundwater flow and contaminant transport.

Although in this course classical MODFLOW, MODFLOW 2005, was used, the same principles are valid for new MODFLOW 6 and MODFLOW USG which have unstructured grid.

My warm recommendation is that before you go to MODFLOW 6 and unstructured grid models (and at some point there is chance that you will go that way) start with classical MODFLOW 2005. The reason is that MODFLOW 2005 is less complicated to start with and numerical complexity of unstructured grid models can overwhelm you in your learning progress of groundwater modelling.

BTW, that is one of the main processes in groundwater modeling (or any kind of environmental modelling), start simple and slowly build complexity.

Happy learning, feel free to ask as many questions related to course material and general groundwater modeling in the Comment space available after each video.
