Remote Sensing Bundle: Part 1

Remote Sensing Basics with Application to Agriculture

Course 101: Basics and Applications of Remote Sensing in Agriculture - $495 USD

Learn application of remote sensing in agriculture in this 100% online course that reviews how satellite imagery can be used to get better info about your crop health, faster detect plant disease, predict crop yield and prescribe variable fertilization rate.

The course material includes presentations from recognized experts in remote sensing and reviews the valuable techniques used for analyzing data from Landsat, Sentinel and ASTER satellites in agriculture purposes. Students will gain practical skills that can be used for research, private sector and public projects.

Course Topics:

  • Historical overview of remote sensing and it’s applications in natural resources monitoring, agriculture, wildfires, urban development and global climate change.
  • Review of available satellites (Landsat, Sentinel, ASTER...) and the various data types available for in-depth analysis
  • Learn how to access satellite data from Landsat, Sentinel 2 and ASTER
  • Learn how to produce vegetation indices and heat maps for agriculture applications.
  • Learn basic application of thermal infrared band in agriculture
  • Learn what to use when NDVI is not applicable
  • Learn to asses chlorophyll status of crops from satellite and apply variable rate nutrient application

Who should attend?

This course is ideally suited for agronomist, managers, climate change experts and all that are interested in this technology and wants to dive into the use of satellite imagery as an additional layer of information to make informed decisions in agriculture production.

Also, if you want to start your global business in agriculture this online course is right place where to start (we have special package for those who wants to start global or regional business).

B.Sc in agronomy, environmental engineering, civil engineering, biology, archeology...

Time Commitment:

Average 2 - 3 hours per week to finish each Module. We encourage you to spend time with the course each week. Your focused attention will pay off in the end!

The course is product of long time teaching Remote Sensing to engineers all around the world, mostly 1 on 1. Through that time a significant amount of quality material was prepared in such way that can serve as good starting point to learn remote sensing application in agriculture.

Carefully chosen and prepared video material is ordered in logical way enabling cost effective learning. Recommendation of different papers, books and pdf are also given.

If anything seems unclear or you just have a question, then please let me know - I will get back to you as soon as possible, usually less then 24 hours. After each lecture you have place to ask questions.

Again, thank you for joining me on this course.

This is an example of processed satellite image from Sentinel 2, greener color is healthier crop. It can be seen pivot circles on picture and less healthy area that will lead to less crop yield. You will learn how to make this images in this course :)

Hello, my name is Dragan, I am founder of Environmental Modeling Solutions and an engineer of hydrogeology and environmental protection and great fan of both professions. Besides teaching and training engineers all over the world, I like constantly to learn something new.

I am currently on online specialization at the The Johns Hopkins University. During my doctoral studies, ten years ago, my mentors told me that I have "superpowers" to simplify and explain complicated engineering topics in an understandable way.

As a geologist by profession, I had first contact with remote sensing in my university days in 1996. At that time, satellite images from LANDSAT satellites were not free and I worked on analyzing airplane images.

As the beginning of the revolution in the application of satellite remote sensing in many scientific areas, it is possible to take the year 2007 when NASA and USGS enabled the free use of images from LANDSAT satellites from archives dating back to 1972.

I gained more knowledge in the field of remote sensing at the The Johns Hopkins University (Environmental Engineering in 2017 - (where I was admitted for online specialization).

In the past few years, I have held dozens of courses all over the world (United States, France, South Africa...), usually one on one or to more than one company engineers.

Currently I am working as consultant and educator in Environmental Modeling Solutions and as distributor of KARI KOMPSAT satellite images.
